God is seeking diligent seekers and is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 says ‘it is impossible to please God without faith.’ You must have the basic understanding that God is as real as you are.
Being like Jesus does not mean being called to redeem humanity. To be like Christ is to be born again. It doesn’t matter what you have done in the past; you can be saved.
If you are born again, you are a joint heir with Christ (Romans 8:17 NKJV). Jesus is our prototype, and whatever He can do, we too can accomplish because we are His replica. As the Scripture says, “As He is, so are we.”
We all have potential within us, but until it is converted into power, it remains dormant. The reason many of us do not act like Jesus or do the things He did is because we have refused to grow. The gap between having potential and producing results is growth.
Growth is a process that takes time. Spiritual growth is not church membership. It is not a spiritual gift — you don’t pray for the gift of growth. Growth is not a miracle. While salvation is a gift (Ephesians 2:8), growth is your responsibility. Your growth is not dependent on God, nor is it dependent on your spiritual leader — it is entirely up to you.
The danger of not growing spiritually is that you risk spiritual stagnation.
The ultimate indicator of growth is our ability to become like Christ and manifest His nature. Growth is a function of our daily personal devotion. The time you spend communing with God determines the pace of your growth.
Growth is a product of devotional discipline. When you got saved, your spirit was transformed, but your soul remained the same. It is through the renewal of your mind that you grow.
Essential Ingredients for Spiritual Growth
1. Personal worship time
2. Time to study the Word
3. Personal prayer and communion with God
4. Time for meditation
The Word of God purifies and filters impurities. God wants you to take your devotional life seriously. You must be consistent in studying the Word of God (Joshua 1:8 NKJV). When you consistently feed on His Word, your words and actions will reflect Him.
It is important to understand that growth can be painful, but it is necessary.
You must be disciplined in protecting the time you have set aside for personal devotion with God.
